Usher - No Limit ft. Young Thug
Producer : Usher
Title : No limit ft. Young Thug
Date: 8 Aug 2016
Time : 3 minutes 56 seconds
Summary: This music clip I chose was Usher - No Limit. The
music video was sang by two men called Usher who is known as a R&B and Hip
Hop artist and Young Thug who is known as a Hip Hop artist. The music video is
about there being "no limit" and that you shouldn't let anything or
anyone get in your way of achieving the greatest.
Type of Video: This
video is a performance based clip. The reason why I say this is because the
music video involves a lot of dancing. The theme portrayed is having hope and
faith. The reason why I say this is because in the clip what is denoted in the
music video is black men. So due to this I feel as if Usher had a hidden
message which is that even though you are black, you can fulfil every dream
possible, you shouldn't let the skin of your colour do harm and you're not alone,
we should unite together and achieve the greatest.
Representation: I would say that Usher is represented to be
a great role model as he believes in equality and giving people who are less
fortunate a chance to experience being in a music video for them to get a
better understanding and knowledge. The reason why I say this due to the fact
that he starred dancers who are younger and are also known dancers on Instagram
and perhaps due to them going viral, Usher recognised them and decided to put
them in his music video.
Lip Syncing: In this music video lip syncing was used due to
the fact that he is dancing throughout the whole music video. The reason of
this could be because it is a way for the music video to be cleaner and sharp.
Target Audience: By looking at this clip, I feel as if the
target audience is both male and females whose age is ranging from 10-24 years
old. The reason why I say this is because this is the age where you would start
to think about what you want to be when you're older and also where you start
to make a move on your goal in life. Even though I feel as if Usher is
targeting both gender I feel as if he is targeting males more due to the fact
that he only included males in his music video. So due to that being denoted I
feel as if Usher wrote this song out of his experience in his music industry. I
feel as if he had a bad experience which could have led him to failing in the
music industry, however, something positive happened which lead him to the
riches. So due to this I feel like his target audience are encouraged to buy
his record as it has a message, the music video is lively and it involves dance
moves that are viral and lastly it includes teenagers.
Technological Aspects: During the music clip the camera
angles, editing techniques and shots are repetitive. The video starts off with
a wide shot which was edited into the music video with a dissolve effect to
give us an insight of the location and then from then it cuts away to a close
up visual shot of Ushers jewellery. From "0:30-1:00" there was a use
of continuity match on action editing which made the transitions smooth. These
cutting pace of the shots are fast, which makes it look more professional and
clean. For majority of the music video the angles used were levelled, so in
this way they are able to fit everyone into the shot. At "1:23-1:25"
there was a use of a cut in shot which was shown using a pan movement. At
"2:19-2:26" the effect slow motion was used. At "1:54-1:56"
there was a use of a handheld movement. Throughout the music video the cutting
speed was very fast which made the music video look livelier. Lastly at
"3:03" there was a use of a special effect which made the shot
vibrate. At the beginning of the music video, the dissolve effect was used a lot between each clip. This then went with the beat of the song. In addition between 0:00 - 0:18 there was a use of a slow motion editing effect which also made the clips go in time with the song. The cutting speed of the music video was also fast which made it go in time with the dance moves and the song. However, the camera shots varied as different dance moves were made. At some parts of the music video, hand held movement was used which gave the music video more of a effect
Ideas: By looking at this music video, I feel as if I
would take ideas. However, I liked the way that the cutting speed
was fast and that there was a lot of camera shots used. In addition when
it came to the location, I feel as if I would use a white of black background as it give the artist more attention and if I'm able to get dancers, I feel as if that would look nice. I also want to get hand held movements, but I feel as if the clip would just look messy
A good start, with some analysis of shot types and a start on costume. Don't confuse music video and clip it feels confusing to read. More detail on camera work, editing techniques (pace, cut to beat etc) and mise-en-scene elements. Also can you try to link closer to what you might do? Could be the simple studio location?

Better detail on technical aspects which is useful. This is also good in terms of representation and target audience. Still quite brief and I do think using screen shots would help illustrate points.

I made a few changes when it came to the techniques used and my ideas
